My Favourite Movie

(SPOILERS in this blog)

My all-time favourite movie is La La Land. I chose this movie as my number one pick due to its cinematography, score/soundtrack, editing, story, plot and acting. I think everything about this movie is flawless and exquisite. The first time I've watched this movie it truly opened my eyes about relationships and how timing and how everything happens for a reason.

In the film, the main characters Sebastian and Mia are the movie's main protagonists and are both trying to find their way into the fields that interest them. For Mia, it's acting and trying to find work as an actress in shows, movies and plays and for Sebastian, he is trying to own and play in his very own Jazz club which he later names "Seb's". They both enter each other lives at the perfect time and moment and help each other and support each other while trying to make their own life in different fields of the industry. One in music and one in acting. They later start talking to each other and end up having a connection and later become romantically involved. Their relationship is perfect, they both go to each other's performances and both support each other and care for each other. They find trouble because Seb wants to go on tour with his band and Mia wants to stay in Hollywood to still pursue her dreams of acting and they part ways. Near the end of the movie, they show both Seb and Mia's life and they both live happily ever after in their own lives having two different lifestyles and career choices.

The score is mesmerizing and while you see their stories play out together or separately you'll hold back tears because of the angelic and wonderful soundtrack making you more emotional and making the scenes more emotional. The editing is perfect and encapsulates the chaos, peace and place where the characters are in their lives. The plot and story were well written and everything made sense and was the best story I've seen in a musical. The chemistry between the two actors, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone was just perfect and it was so well cast because I truly believe if it was two different actors the movie wouldn't have been as good and wouldn't have been my favourite film.

Timing and how everything happens for a reason is my biggest takeaway from the film. This is because without each other I don't think they would be as successful and be where they are each other and even if they didn't end up together, during the time when they were together and dating they helped, supported and loved each other which pushed them through the rough times and gave them the extra push and helped them be where they were at the end of the movie.

Instagram and Social Media for Kids 13 and Under
Blog #2

I think the new versions of social media are damaging to kids and younger people due to the amount of access they have and how influenced they can be. For example, If a younger kid sees their favourite influencer do dangerous and inappropriate things, they would want to emulate and replicate the same behaviour the person they look up to does. This is scary and dangerous for society because younger kids are starting to learn new things that they aren't supposed to know at their age. The number of kids and younger people doing more and more reckless things because they've seen online and are trying to emulate makes it scarier when something actually dangerous is trendy and how kids and younger people that get influenced easily will do. We have seen challenges and trends take lives like the Tide Pod challenge where people would eat them and record themselves doing so when they are poisoning themselves and doing it for likes and views. We have been in a weird stage where kids are trying to skip school and find work/money doing things like social media and although you can become famous and earn money from it through ways that are creative, wonderful and eye-opening. Sometimes kids would try and do things to hurt themselves and others around them to get views which can lead to problems and dangerous scenarios in the future and right now.
Knowing that this can be harmful to me and my siblings, I didn't have social media until I was in Grade 8 and I didn't really feel the need to have it because all my friends in elementary were all so nice and we would just talk through video game chats and voice chats.
I think the kid's version of the apps is always safer and better for younger kids because it kids them entertainment through filters and ensures the content they are seeing is appropriate for them. For example, Youtube kids is much safer due to filters and limiting the content they can see and ensuring that it's safe and appropriate for kids (no swearing/cussing, the content is appropriate, violence is kept to a minimum, etc.)
I think that age limits are super important especially when there is content and information that can be shared without filters, edits and fact checks. Anyone can post and share information online and especially on social media, information can spread quickly which can be either good or bad. The use of social media to cyberbully, make fun of and wreak havoc on someone else's life is so much easier online and it's better for kids and younger people to stay off of it for as long as they can. It'll make them more sociable because the only interactions they'll get is face to face and although I have written about the negatives, Introverts and shy people enjoy talking online and find it more comforting and can be helpful as well. As an introvert, it is much easier to convey my thoughts and emotions in text rather than in person and it is much easier and stress-reducing messaging people you enjoy talking to compared to in person.

I think celebrities should be held to a higher standard than regular people like you and me because they have much more influence and reach compared to us. For example, When Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars a critically acclaimed and prestigious event with millions of people watching worldwide, people would see this and have an opinion on the situation. I also think that a lot of celebrities should be held to a much higher standard because they are idolized or portrayed as role models to younger people, adults and kids. So when they see Will Smith do something inappropriate like how he reacted, it makes behaviour like that more "okay" in a sense because if Will Smith did it then I can do it. In conclusion, I think Will Smith and other celebrities should be held to a much higher standard than others because they have the influence and popularity to have all their actions magnified and are sometimes idolized by younger people and kids making their actions more important to stay appropriate and responsible.

I think the Oscars are an amazing platform to praise, admire and give creators and artists a platform to be awarded and acknowledged. That being said, I think this year's Oscar did what every Oscar did which was award fantastic creators and artists but is overshadowed due to this situation which is sad and disappointing. I think Chris Rock handled the aftermath very professionally trying to play it off and I think Will Smith acted out of character and showed a different side of him. I personally think that Will Smith is in the wrong because as a fellow comedian you should understand that not all jokes are written by him or should be taken personally because it's all in good fun and light-hearted. Although I think that, I also think that the joke Chris Rock said was inappropriate and should have respected Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett's situation and privacy.

A celebrity I admire is Steve Carrel and I would feel very confused and frustrated if he were to do something like this I personally would still admire him but lose a little less respect for him if he handled it the same way as Will did. This is solely due to him being a fellow comedian and how respectful and kind he is and him slapping a fellow comedian when he was joking would have left a sour taste in my mouth.

Another example when a celebrity has behaved similarly to this incident was when Kanye stole the microphone and stage from Taylor Swift at the VMA awards and told her and everyone in attendance online and in-person that Beyonce had a better video than her. Kanye West Stole Taylor Swift's moment and speech and people only remember the situation because Kanye West walked up and stole the microphone and told everyone that Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time. This cut her time short and made her moment less memorable because of him stealing the microphone.

I think celebrities should have the same accountability as regular people no matter how much money or popularity they have and they should be behaving properly and responsibly because they know the power they hold and how much attention and fame they have. I think celebrities should apologize and get punishment from whatever establishment they acted poorly on just like how the Oscars banned Will Smith for 10 years due to his poor behaviour and judgement.

My thoughts and opinions on this situation as a whole have been mostly negative but the amount of jokes and memes being made because of this incident makes it a little better. I think this event is always a great place to show appreciation to directors, actors, videographers, editors and everyone else that plays a huge part in making movies, shows and productions great and it was a shame that this year got overshadowed due to this situation. I personally think Chris Rock handled it as well as he could after getting slapped by a fellow comedian and person in his industry and although the joke was kind of low that didn't deserve a slap and to be embarrassed in front of millions of people and their fellow colleagues. I think celebrities should be held to a higher standard because they have so much influence and are idolized by many and when they act like this they make the whole industry look poorly. That being said we are all human and we all make mistakes some larger than others but Will Smith is human and he made a mistake that cost him a lot. He is now banned from attending the Oscars for 10 years but can still receive and accept awards and he is now I joke and is talked about constantly online.

Blog post #1 Some Things about Myself!

 About Me!

Yuki Ishikawa - My favourite Volleyball player

My name is Jared and I enjoy playing all types of games and sports! Some of the games and video games I enjoy playing in my free time are Chess, Valorant, Rainbow Six Siege and Overwatch. I also like playing volleyball, soccer and basketball but I enjoy Volleyball more than all the others sports that I've played so far. I also enjoy watching martial arts like Boxing, and mixed martial arts organizations like the UFC. Some of my favourite fighters to watch are Saul Alvarez, Georges St. Pierre, Stephen Thompson, Max Holloway, TJ Dillashaw and Tony Ferguson. My favourite tv show is Parks and Recreation because of its solid writing and acting and gave a lot of actors more attention and popularity like Chris Pratt and Aubrey Plaza. I also think that they had one of the most consistent tv runs and did not have a bad season even when key actors left, unlike other shows and sitcoms. My favourite movies are Interstellar, Inception, Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Truman Show.
